ELCA joins forces with EPFL to build trust in the digital world

With the president of the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Martin Vetterli, just announcing the creation of the EPFL Center for Digital Trust (C4DT), ELCA confirms its commitment to the EPFL and its associated institutional and industrial partners to developing a reference point in the areas of IT security, data protection and privacy compliance in the digital world.

The digitization of the economy and society poses numerous challenges and offers fantastic opportunities for both people and the economy. The Center’s aim is to create suitable conditions to promote such prospects for growth and development. These conditions primarily concern the trust in the digital world that is made possible by securing systems and data.

In this capacity, the Center for Digital Trust wishes to work on the three foundations that are necessary to create a climate of trust in a digitized world: cybersecurity, transparency in data management and protection of personal information.

Beyond the funding of research projects, ELCA is proud to be able to contribute to this ambitious programme with its renowned expertise in software engineering and its understanding of the challenges of digitalisation. To date, ELCA has worked together with several local stakeholders on blockchain technologies in the sectors of events and energy, in particular to manage digital identities and smart contracts. Its expertise in cryptography makes ELCA a key stakeholder when it comes to the security of data in the cloud.

Since the Center's establishment in September 2010 at the EPFL Innovation Center, ELCA has strongly emphasized the need to reinforce links between the industrial, governmental and academic worlds to create a dynamic ecosystem for research and development and promote the transfer of technology and expertise. This makes it possible to respond to new challenges and to seize socio-economic opportunities linked with technological innovations.
